The German Film, "North Face", or "Nordwand", is that perfect climbing film.
The Eiger north face is one of the most daunting climbing spots on earth. Until 1938, it had been the scene of numerous failed attempts and death. Check out this trailer for the movie, "North Face". This German film is about how this mountainside attracted climbers from all over Europe and became an important symbol for German power during the time leading up to World War II.

Mind-numbing temperatures; a dramatic avalanche; and the first winter summit of an 8,000 meter peak. All of these elements are in full focus in Corey Richard's award-winning film, Cold, which recently won the top prize at the Banff Film Festival. Last night for only 2 hours (9pm-11pm EST), Outside magazine had an exclusive screening of Cold and I had the opportunity to check it out.

Before Edmund Hillary and Tenzig Norgay stood on top of Mt. Everest in 1953, an expedition of French climbers made a daring ascent of Annapurna - the 10th tallest mountain on earth and the first 8,000 meter peak to ever be climbed. Their success, however, came at a price. Maurice Herzog's 1950 classic, "Annapurna", a first-person account of that grueling expedition, kick-started a sprint to the top of the world and set the foundation for adventure literature for years to come.
